Liminal Light
A self-published poetry collection written to mark a 60th birthday, exploring place, presence and change through coastal imagery and personal reflection.
Context
Liminal Light was written to mark a 60th birthday: a collection of poems exploring themes of place, presence and change. Coastal imagery runs through it alongside personal reflection; the book captures moments of stillness, transition and hope. It is a deeply personal project and an example of carrying a creative idea through to print via self-publishing.
The poems and photographs are also the companion material that runs through Between the Waves; the two projects share the same sensibility.
What I built
A poetry collection, self-published, with an accompanying website where the writing and the atmosphere around it are allowed to set the pace.
Role
Writer and self-publisher. The poems are entirely my own words.
Outcome
Published in 2024. A companion website is live at poetry.davidsouthworth.net.

“David has crafted something really special; the poetry and images work beautifully together, every page is a piece of art.”
— Tim Nash, Nomad Podcast
What it shows
Creative writing and reflective practice as a real part of the work, not a sideline. The same attention to language that serves the technical writing serves the poetry, held to a strict rule: for poetry, the words are mine alone.
